Q: Why does my Internet go out and cause me to reboot my modem?

A: Your ISP or Internet Service Provider, will tell you that needing to reboot your modem on a regular basis is an indication that something is wrong. Common problems that can will affect your service range from cut lines, someone digging and cutting a line, to routers that no longer route and modems that simply fail for one reason or another. It can also be your computer however, if rebooting your modem and or router fixes the problem it’s likely not your computer.

Q: Should my Satellite Dish be grounded?

A: National Electric Code requires that antennas, metal masting and cabling be grounded to the home’s ground rod. This is to reduce the risk of lightning strikes by reducing static electricity that builds up on the system. Idaho does not enforce this code, therefore, an install may be improperly or not grounded at all and no one would know.

Q: Which is a better connection, Wired or WiFi?

A:  A wired internet connection will give you a more solid connection and better service. Of course, if wiring is not available, WiFi will still allow you to have service. 

Q: What is Residential Structured Cabling?

A:  A Structured Cabling System is made up of:  

  1. Inside Wiring – Television, telephone, Internet and network outlets in the home. 
  2. Incoming Service’s Wiring – Free Local TV, Satellite and Cable TV, Internet and Telephone services.
  3. Distribution Panel -In-wall metal panel with electrical outlet and cover.  All wiring originates from this panel in a Home Run pattern.

  1. Fewer wires and fewer electronics on the counter or desktop.

Q:  What should I know regarding My Structured Cabling System?

  1. In Idaho, no permit or inspection of the Structured Cabling System is required, some homes are better equipped than others.
  2.  The companies that charge you for, Cable, Satellite, Telephone, and Internet services do not train their installers on the use of these systems often leading to improper use and even damage.   
  3. Every Home Owner should have a go-to person working for them, a person who helps the owner understand, maintain and use these systems to their fullest potential. We provide this service.
